Howdy guys, question regarding towing. I have an all stock 88 fullsize jimmy with a 700 and 350. Came with a tow package (HD i think). Well Me and a buddy recently purchased a 70 ford vanthat we need to tow. He has a single axel 20 foot trailer that weighs around 1200 pounds. My question is how much of a struggle would it be for my jimmy to tow both trailor and van. no grades just highway. truck has a transmission cooler also. thanks for any tips or input

I really don't think the trailer is going to be adequate. The truck should be able to pull that with no other problems than the short wheelbase making things fun. A single axle trailer is not likely to have enough load rating for a van an probably doesn't have brakes. Also be aware that trailer balance is going to be critical. Too little tongue weight and you'll be the guys against the divider with the trailer slammed against the side of your truck.

I wouldn't try this with a single axle trailer, you or he may look into renting a trailer rated to handle the weight of the van. Through hard experience I have learned that a good trailer makes all the difference in how much you abuse your tow rig and how difficult it is to control

Oh, and good luck renting a car trailer without 8 lug axles. I ran into that problem before. Now I have 3 trucks in the yard that are 8 lug, just to be sure.:D

Hey guys. Decided to not even bother with it. Wasnt worth waddin my truck up. Thanks for the info guys!
