towing in netural??

i dont think they were saying as in breaking but as in just not good for the trans...but i think if its strapped down tight enough than the truck shouldnt need to move anyway...

It's never good to put a load on the park pawl, that's why there is a parking brake, and no owners manual will ever recommend not using a parking brake. Don't care what others do, I've seen/heard vehicles that have had them fail, and it's a waste. It's obviously a pretty effective design, but doesn't take much for it to fail either.

It's obviously better to err on the side of caution and have as many ways of keeping the vehicle from moving as possible, therefore, use everything you've got.

When I put my truck on the trailer I put it in park. I attach the straps and get them snug. I then put the trans in neutral and tighten the straps fully and put the truck back in park. I do this so It won't try an pull against the parking paw to hard just to be safe.

I do keep the truck in park once it is totally strapped in. I wouldn't tow it with the truck in neutral. If you snapped a strap or chain it would be 100% free ride for the truck on your next acceleration or deceleration. At least in park you have a chance at the truck staying on the trailer with the friction from the tires to help keep in it place.

You've never seen an emergency brake fail? I've seen several.

If you tie your load down correctly, it shouldn't really matter.

I think you are fine by setting the e-brake, putting the truck in park (if its an auto) and then tying it down.

Only ebrake problems I've seen are from people not making sure they work properly. Anything can fail. :) I know plenty of people that race, and their cars don't have park nor e-brakes, and they tow them all over the place.

Wasn't it someone on here who had their truck come off the trailer a year or two back, rolled over a car and so on?

sometimes I spend my days off working for a guy that tows cars for extra money and hes a good friend to have. what he told me is to always have the vehicle in park if automatic and in gear if a standard and have the parking brake on. he said its not so much to keep the vehicle on the trailer but more of a safety precaution if it falls off the trailer. if it comes unstrapped or comes off the trailer there is nothing else to stop it and its better to break your truck as have it fall of the trailer and barrel down the highway with no driver.
