Hello From Arizona! My names Vance, I grew up and currently live in Sierra vista Arizona. A member on wheeling arizona linked me to jekbrown's article on the crossover steering, which i found very informative and helpfull. Thank you. I just want to give a shout out beacause i hit up Co now and then when i vist family and friends in farmington Nm. Would love to make a wheeling trip up there someday.

I'm a "shade tree mechanic" Dabbling in old VWs and BMWS. I weld/fabricate and have a good mechanical knowledge. Painting houses is where my incomes at, "cosmetic specialist, making **** pretty". Paintball, sailing and fishing are my passions, Recently we have had wetter than usual weather which my friends have been taking advantage of, and well, needless to say... Add mudding/crawling to the list.

Heres my project, A 71 k5 frame fell in my lap recently, I want to mount a 84 single cab s10. Run 52" springs up front, shackle flip the rear, cross over my steering and run a "plain jain 350". As the frame sits, its pretty much complete, got the sm465, np202 and is currently on 33"s "which will get me through the build, when im done i wanna go 40's.

Right now, im just grinding and cleaning the frame up, have to refab the front crossmember and im thinking of fabbing the engine support crossmember to bolt up so i can drop the oil pan. thinking of semi boxing the frame, just 5 inch wide 1/4" steel plates on stressed points of the frame. dont feel its neccessary to shorten or cut anything on the frame, the bed im using is a long bed so ill just cut whatever i need to line the wheel hubs up with the wheels out of the front of the bed.

Well im just doing more research for my build, so far found Tinks hybrid build which was great! some other s10-k build pics and some local forums that have been very helpful. Trying to get as much as I can before I actually do my swap, my S10 is my daily driver! While my bmws getting ready for paint. heh "two projects at once! the way i roll!" so i gotta get it ready, do everything i can so when it comes time to mount my, cab its lift and go!

Any input would greatly be appreciated! Picture's, problems, anything can help. crossover steering is the biggest issue on my plate, thinking about using the s10s steering box, that would probably solve a few mounting issues right there. What vehicles are you k5 guys getting your right steering knuckes from? think i could cut the arm off the s10 knuckel and weld it to the k5s? they are both cast steel right? preheat and strength weld?

well thanks in advance!
and maybe see you on the trails one day!
