I've been fixed on this truck ever since I saw it on a lot last week. But i have never owned a Toy before. At risk of getting flamed royally what are the upsides of owning a Toyota?

2007, 25K miles $24K to own....

every thing:thumb: they are completely awesome. I had an 08 double cab 4x4. Traded it for a camry se:doah: man I wish I had that thing still

I have one. It was my pops who got it new as a lease. He passes away so my mom took over the lease, then we bought it couple months ago. I like it. Has all kinds of power, rides great, quiet, comfy and decent mileage for what it is. Price doesn't seem bad, ours was $28k for an 08, not lifted like that. We got it for $17k.

You know, for $24000 you could buy a diesel srw 1-ton. AND NOT HATE AMERICA at the same time

sorry but most of that money went to americans and its more american than any chevy truck built since 2005. Its over 80% built here by americans (all making over $25 hr) with american built parts and materials. chevys have been 60/40 fo over 15 years, just sayin

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Plus my last chevy went tosh*t right after the 5 year warranty ran out. And then they wanted me to buy another one.

Looks good, depends on what you want it for I suppose. Although for a newer Dodge Cummins you could get one for the same price, and have a 3/4 ton truck, diesel.... Perhaps not 25k on the odo, but it's a cummins.

I do like the Tundras though, they look nice. Only problem is they don't build them as 1/2 tons, 3/4 tons...etc. It looks super beefey, but they're all 1/2 ton right. But then again I suppose that's not their market.

2500# bed load cap. and a 10500# tow rating for the double cab I had. Much bigger than a 1/2 ton but billed as one

if the new ones are as good as the old ones... then its pretty fricken awesome ;D

They are good trucks, haven`t seen to many issues with them. Usually rear wheel bearings, TSB for front diff noise, 4.7L has air pump issues, and stock the fronts tires always edgewear. That being said, I`d buy an 05/06 Duramax for that much money, better truck I think. The Tundra should hold it`s value very well.

Living by the motor city I feel too many people are misinformed about that. Just because they assemble it here with some American parts doesn't make it American. Each of the big three have major engineering/technical centers where thousands of people work full time. I am not just talking 2000, I am talking 10 - 15 thousand in one facility. Thats a lot of jobs. Not to mention all of the plants around the entire country that build most of the components that go into these vehicles. There are thousands of plants, each employing hundreds or thousands more people. I used to work in one of those too in IL where we built cam and crank sensors for a lot of GM and Chrysler vehicles until I moved to MI.

They may assemble the Toyota here, but the majority of the parts are foreign, and all the profit goes right back to the foreign country where all the engineers design the stuff, and then they spend your money there.

Every time someone buys a foreign car, I think, that's why I got laid off 3 years ago (got a new job pretty quick luckily). However, when I see a foreign car, I still think, that's a big reason why my house value dropped $100k in the last view years, probably only worth $150k now. All the automotive employees who got laid off and couldn't find another job moved out of MI. Now there are foreclosed houses everywhere that are selling for cheap causing everyone elses houses to be worth crap. Might be stuck with it now. I don'teven work in automotive now, but I know a LOT of people that do/did.

Do the whole country a favor and buy an american car please. The quality is pretty excellent on most all of the cars these days, so don't try that line . American cars don't have any problem stopping either.

And to the OP, to answer your original question. The upside to owning a Toyota is you can always look forward to upgrading to a Chevy later! :D

Good points. But with that said, it's a used purchase. Someone already purchased it once which sent 'x' profit to it's home country. So, that part is done already.

The only one who stands to profit from it now is the owner of the used car lot and the bank that finances the purchase. Hopefully, they are both American companies.

Just food for thought...

Used purchases keep up the resale values. If resale values drop to nothing nobody would buy new ones, resale values do affect new sales. Also, when that breaks you will probably have to buy more foreign parts to keep it working. So it still matters, although not as much I agree. Rant off, carry on. :D

So you keep buying gas ? most of which is foreign whats the complaint.

Are you serious? So because most of the gas is foreign that means we should just buy foreign everything?

I can see where this is going so I am done on this post. It's not worth all of our time to argue on the internet, that's not what we're here for.

I can't believe I am potentially outnumbered on buying American on a Chevrolet offroading site though. Scary.

YES, I agree, end the debate!

It actually makes me sad when I buy a part to fix my truck and it says on the box 'MADE IN CHINA'. But, most of the time, we are left with zero other choices. Case in point: My vehicle ownership since 03 has been nothing but GM trucks and one car (03 1500 Z71, 04 2500HD, 05 Trailblazer, 08 Impala LTZ). I've liked everything we have owned. And I'm only talking about new stuff not my antiques. But when my wifes car is paid off soon I'll be considering another new purchase, most likely a small truck. The one thing I really want is a manual trans and 4x4. For moderate options and manual trans with 4x4 the only trucks available are Toyota and Nissan. The Colorado/Canyon is not an option as they only have the auto. I'm left with no American option.

I don't fault anyone for buying a Toyota, new or used (unless it's a Prius :D). Sometimes they have to do what's right for them.

To the OP, you strike me as the "doesn't work on their own vehicles" type. And in that case you pay for repairs needed. Which leads to buying a reliable vehicle with a proven track record. Whether it's American or Foreign. You have to do what's right for you.

And cars today are a crapshoot, I don't care what name is on it. I see it every day working at a dealership. Some cars are perfect and never come in for anything but maintenance, others are in every month for unusual issues or major stuff. How does it go, "Life is like a box of chocolates..."

When GM stops taking government money (my tax dollars) AND starts building something I want to buy (small SUV that is a real 4x4 and can actually hold up, a small crew cab truck that's not a POS, ANYTHING with a small diesel, cars that don't make me yawn and have to work to distinguish from any other car, etc) then I'll buy a GM.

My cousin worked for GKN in Flint. Two uncles retired from GM in Flint. Another is retired Ford. Most of my family is from the east side of Michigan.

Don't blame Toyota for the ****ty quality and "MEH" designs GM is pooping out lately. They have some interesting stuff like the Camaro but the trucks are fail. My cousin told me once my Suzuki was why he lost his job...blah blah blah. Never mind when it was made in 2002 GM had controlling interest in Suzuki...or that GM's push for Suzuki to have unibody "cute utes" like them has severely hurt Suzuki's SUV sales now. Oh...after GM sold off their controlling interest too.
Meanwhile same cousin has had a BUNCH of trouble with several newer GM pickups. Traded his '06 in on a '09 when it had a ton of electrical gremlins at about the 3 year mark.
His sister has a '10 Z71 and has had a bunch of oddities. They had to replace a bunch of engine parts...due to quality issues. Toyota strikes again!

Living here in Lexington, KY I sure do notice a bunch of very happy people working for Toyota in Georgetown, KY making good solid Camry's. The economy here sure has benefited. Georgetown went from a tiny small town 25 years ago to a decent sized city that has a LOT of the jobs in the area. Every charity event or drive you see around here is at least partly sponsored by Toyota. The World Equestrian games last year were largely sponsored by Toyota. A large number of other large companies have moved into the area due to the manufacturing base and labor pool that has come about because of Toyota.

...damn Toyota.

To the original poster...look over the Tundra and if it's good...get it!

(That Dodge you bought croak on you?)

My 2010 Ford has a big fat 1 at the beginning of the VIN, as does my 86 F600, and my 84 K5, even my Ford powered Woodchuck chipper. All built by union labor, I am IBEW myself.

MR. TOYOTA STILL PROFITS IN JAPAN WHEN YOU BUY A TOYOTA

**** the union. All it does is enforce mediocrity. I deal every day with the "fruits" (ie road apples) of midwestern union built "quality" every day.
