Toyota 4runner

I daily drive an 86. My only wish is that I would have shopped around more for the 5 speed. 4 banger+auto is really ghey.

Mine was an '85. One of the first 3 in Memphis. No backseat, no a/c, no nothin' for extras. Dad drove it home with me swinging from the rollbar like a little monkey. I had to buy it from him in h/s if I wanted to drive it. Then when I took the top off he about had a stroke.:D Anyway, it was affectionately known to everyone as the "MudPuppy". Nearly unbreakable, nearly unstopable. Had the 22RE w/a 5 speed. Great mileage and it was geared something like 5.32:1 or at least the low 5's. I had to trade it in years ago and I have been seeing it lately down the road. Has over 300K on the ticker and still looks like it runs strong, of course I don't know what has been done to it in the last 10 years.:( If only the wife would let me have another truck...:doah: :haha:

Did anyone confirm the +/- 5000lbs on these? I would also like to know how the little 4banger moved it at that wieght. Maybe I'll put the 4cly in the cucv:haha: .

The weight rating is 5180 maybe that was what he was reading.

Unbelievably great rigs. Had an 87, wheeled and beat the piss out of it. Climbed like a billy goat. Not a lot of power stock, but easy to mod. I stuffed a V8 in a 86 4x4 truck and it ran really well. A EFI V8 with OD will get the same MPG as the 22RE in these things because they are so light. The IFS is pretty strong, and you can get conversions to fit full width axles underneath. The gear drive TC's are bulletproof. Even the "weak" spots really aren't that weak. Just watch out for rust. 3500-3700 pounds sounds about right, they don't weigh much.

I dunno where you got the weight figure but, there is no way they weigh that much. I like them a lot, one of my buddies is actually looking for one to build (he has a built 86? Toy pickup that he did his own SAS on) he wants the 4runner for the extra seating. Edit: Wow lots of posts since I started typing mine, yeah 3700 sounds right!

If you are going to really wheel a 4 runner you need at least 1000000 feet of exo cage and 13 transfer cases bolted together with a minimum of 123423553:1 crawl ratio.

Keep this in mind.
