would a toyota doubler work (IE be wheelable) in a fullsize jimmy/blazer

for the sake of the arguement....6.2 diesel, 700r4, D60 front, 14blt rear, 5.38 gears, 38 inch tires.

Discuss........

Dont post up with comments like "WHY would you want to" we're already past that...this is a thread for..will it work? is it the weak link? could it handle the torque? would it grenade the first time you put it in low and stuffed a tire? ect...

Seems like it would be hard to adapt behind a 700R4 and yeah, I think it would pop fairly easily.

The gear driven Toyota cases are pretty comparable to D300 strength from what I've heard, I wouldn't trust it in a fullsize.

for the arguement lets assume theres a AA adapter behind the 700r....forgot to ad that part:crazy:

Its a good question. I would think it would hold up. The toy cases are not tiny, gear driven, and pretty reliable as far as I know. I have seen toys with 44" tires.

Then again you add a lot more weight.

Hell I dont know Im shooting in the dark here. dont have much experiance with toyotas.

I think it would be the first to break in that combo. That's assuming the 700r4 has been rebuilt, if it's still stock, then it'd be a toss up between which one went first. How much power is the 6.2 putting out? If you're making allot of HP (or more likely TQ) than combine that with the weight of the rig, it'll break eventually. If you already have one and have a way to mount it to the 700r4, I'd try it. Whats the worst that could happen?

I dont think I would trust it. I remember reading some info about toyotas and one of them mentioned that it would be risky running the toy cases behind a swapped in 350 even in the small light truck.

I personally think they look a little small and unable to handle the torque of a diesel but have no real experience with a toyota t-case.

There was a guy at Blazer Fest in 06 with a Toy doubler and locked one tons on 40ish tires. He ran the tank trap and mini-con. Broke a stub on the mini con was all I saw. Wasn't gettin on it hard, but seemed to work for slow controlled driving.

The 700r4 is built so that shouldn't be an issue, I thought that they might be OK but I also have no experience with them. I have not seen anybody in a full size running the set up but have heard of many Toy's doing it with big tires

All I have to add is in a toy the ring and pinion is the weak link. Your axle combination will move the weak point. I wouldn't trust it in a full size full weight truck.

Coming from Toyotas to Chevys I would trust it. Then again I dont have a lead foot.

It would need to be a BUILT toy double though. I'm talking

Marlin Stuff - 23spline shafts on both cases, and definately have everything cryod for added strength.

The toy stuff is pretty strong. Hell I was ever considering swapping in toy axles under my k10 but I scrapped the idea when i realized that I would need crazy bearing killing backspacing.

I say go for it. Its worth the try.

O and btw they make a 700r4 to toy case adapter I believe.

for the sake of the discussion it would be 21 spline and the older marlin adapter...only cause I have it laying around and my brother and I got to talking about one day...you know how "talking about stuff" goes..but neither of us had seen or heard of it being done, so I made the thread..

not that I was seriously gonna do it and its all moot now because I'm pretty sure I got it sold.

I wheel with some toyotas, one with a doubler. My son has a 4.7:1 gears in his single case. I've never seen a ring and pinion break. Although stock front axles (birfields) pop all the time.

Not sure it would hold up to the weight of a Blazer. My sons truck is 3100 pounds.

ive seen guy run them in full size landcruiser with no problems. and there a pretty heavy truck. I just junked my fj62 cruiser. if u get the boby longfield birfields for the yota difs there as strong as 1 ton dana 60. and the land cruiser is alot closer to full size axle. i no off topic just throw it out there. by the way upgradeing a toyta front dif is dirt cheap. 600 bucks for 60 dana strenth axle shafts is hard to beat ;) in case someone wanted to build a hell of a s10 ;) cheap
