My buddy has a TPI305 in his Jeep.
He burned up the bottom end, and wants to put in a used engine for now.
Mortec lists his block as being from an 85-86 Camaro.
He found a used engine that Mortec shows as an 80-85 block.
Any reason that his TPI top end wouldn't bolt right to this block?
How about using the heads that are on the used block? Could he use the heads that are on that carb'd block, and just bolt his TPI intake and stuff to it?
His original engine is not a roller. It has hydraulic lifters, and they are not roller lifters.

Yes, you can bolt the top end to the early style block, but assuming you're going from a one-piece to a two-piece rear main seal you'll need a different flywheel or flexplate. Also, and this won't be an issue since he's not running one, it won't be factory roller cam compatible (without modification, anyway).

If he's going with a long block, the intake bolt pattern on the iron heads will differ (the angle of some of the intake bolts is different but the overall number is the same), but can be modified to match. However, the TPI heads should be of a newer higher flowing design (check the casting #'s to verify), I'd use them.
