TPI or multipoint?

Well, since my 87 has spoiled me with EFI, I gotta get a setup on my 84. My friend keeps telling me to go the way of multipoint, but I wanna go TPI. I've found complete sets on auction sites for around 1K or less, which is about half of what I would pay for the edlebrock multipoint setups. Is there much of a difference? I think that the TPI would be just as easy (or hard) to install as the multipoint. Any input?

TPI is a multipoint fuel injection system.TBI is what you have on your 87.A factory TPI set up is alot cheeper than the edlebrock system and works the same.Plus you can buy parts for a TPI at almost any parts store in america.

Well, I was comparing it to the Edelbrock multipoint setup. That thing is around $1,900! I like the look of TPI, plus it costs less. Doesn't TPI bolt up the the pre 87 heads as well?

They come both ways,you just need to find one off an 85,86 model F-body.The 305 and 350 TPI's are the same exept the 350 have bigger injector's which is ok because if you get a used one your better off buying new ones anyway.The 305 are alot eazier to find.Good luck
 
I am a believer in using the GM TPI as well. Much cheaper, parts as said above are readily available, and they flat out are a nice unit. You can go up to larger injectors easily, larger throttle body, etc. and put a custom chip in it and have an easy 400 HP motor. Definitely the way to go.

The post 87 models I believe have to be matched up to post 87 heads, but no big deal. Lots of them around now.

If your going to use a 350 and keep it stock you can get by with the stock prom and use the 305 injectors by useing an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and bump it up a little.
