So what should I look into next?

Plugging off the vacuum leak at the throttle body was a major improvement, but I still have a few backfires. Is it time to get a vacuum pump on this thing and check the vacuum? If so, where do I hookup and what am I looking for?

On the VSS, I assume the VSS is working. My speedo is an electric one from autometer and it works. Or at least it was working the last time I drove it.

I Would connect a vacuum gauge to any vacuum port and just check to be safe

Autozone probably loans the vacuum gauge out too, wouldn't be a bad idea to check just to make sure you don't have a leak going on.
