to start I am running a 450hp 454.. sm465... 203/205 d60 14 bolt locked ft and rear 39.5 tsl.... 52 inch springs in the ft and 56 inch in the rear with 5 long leaves
my ??? is what gear should I run and would it be worth blocking the rear??

...and same question with a 450 hp 454... th400... 203/205 d60 14 bolt locked ft and rear 39.5 TSLS or 40" MTRs... 52 inch springs in the ft and 56 in the rear and traction bar. Thinking of running the MTRs at 30 psi in double low in 3rd gear and drop gears as needed.
 
i hope you guys have traction bars. my truck with 3/4 ton leaves in the rear got hopping really bad when i did the last truck pull with stock size tires. i did one other one with my q78 swampers and it sagged but didn't hop. there's a video on here somewhere.
 
I have a traction bar but that still looking for tips on how hard to take off or what gearing or typical procedure. Also what about blocking the rear end? Weight classes are 5200 and less, 5200-6200, and 6200+. Mine weighs in at 5500 w/o me in it.
 
take off slow. you got to get the sled moving, then get into it. block the rear if your allowed. around here you have to have a minimum of 2" suspension travel. my truck has a 400hp 383, th400, 203, 4:56's and i just ran 1st gear, low range and it did ok for not being setup like all the other trucks. mine weighs 5200
 
Will blocking the rear kinda help a little with axle wrap? To me it would help some because when the springs turns into and S shape your axle would have to go up some and if it were blocked down to static height it would keep it at bay some. Or am I just smokin crack?
 
i think blocking the rear just keeps it from sagging. it would still want to pivot and wrap up.
 
Blocking the rear keeps the suspension from dropping allowing the weight of the sled to "pull" down harder on the rear end, so the pressure isn't lost in the suspension it goes to traction at the tires
