So what have you guys had go wrong, break, or otherwise wish youve done differently on the trail? And what you could have brought or did bring that would make it all ok. Help some other guys learn from your mistakes!

A guy we were wheelin with separated his lower ball joint on a 44. He had the spare parts and I had the press (Harbor Frieght $40). He was up and running in a couple hours. Makes changing u-joints a snap too.

The square end of a file works well for getting broken grease zirks out.

I had the fuel pump go out on my burb in a pretty isolated area. We had one borken 3/8 ratchet, one cressent wrench and a pair of vice grips. We had to pull the tank using only those tools and had to ride our dirtbikes to get a new pump. I wish i would have cut an acces hole in the floorboard before that happend.

- Regeared a rear 10 bolt on a trail
- Cut out the pass side stub shaft after the joint exploded and locked the steering
- Rebuilt Q-Jet
- Rebuilt SandawgK5's NP 208 in El Centro
- Replaced broken leaf spring
- Removed a few broken driveshafts
- Replaced my fair share of u-joints
- Minor wiring repairs

I always bring all the tools I would ever need.....and then a few more for good measure.

- i've busted a draglink end - had a spare

- busted driveshaft u-joint, which took the ears of the shaft yoke with it - swapped the front yoke to the rear and drove with no front shaft. upgraded to 1410's to avoid that problem. Wish i had corrected my pinion angle prior to that.

- ignition module died in December on the Con, had to go back to pollock and get a new one - I carry a spare now.

- broke a rear window - put a piece of roofing tin in its plac efor the ride home, made for a stinky, cold ride home (damn exhaust)

- been stuck without real recovery points which makes people willing to help you upset.

My advice is work on your rig yourself so you know how to fix it when it breaks, and you know what tools you need to bring (all of them) and bring all spare parts you can or wheel with people who have same/similar setups as you so you can share parts. And hope you have a friend that is a mechanic so if you don't know how to fix it, they do :)

I carry all kinds of fluids, spare oil filter, grease, etc, sawzall, power inverter, a compressor that will reseat a bead, although i don't carry a spare tire. Not a break, but I've run into downed trees blocking the road out in the woods, good to have a chain saw too, especially when they're on your way out...

Buying my K5 with 1 factory automatic locking hub, and 1 Warn Prem. manual locking hub. 4wd worked great all day untill it started geting dark... got hung up on the ENTRANCE to the mud holes. (have since been replaced with brand new Warn Premium Hubs)
