Anyway to keep this from getting worse in the future?
 
looks like a clean smash to me. if its not cracked then i wouldnt worry about it. maybe spray some paint or undercoating on it to keep it from rusting.

k5's did come with factory tank skid guards, swipe one from a junkyard and install it.

I've got a few of those in my tank too. (twas the reason i built my skid) As long as they are just dents no cracks or leaks, and on the sides of the tank, no where around the pump it should be fine. Just plan on it being a little less $ to fill up now. :D:haha:
 
No problem, but you should try to find a gas tank skid plate. I gave mine away, many K5's came with that option so it should be pretty easy to find for cheap.
