Up here we ride & camp deep into the mountains and are always at risk for enccounters with dangerous wildlife such as bears (even Grizzlies) & mountain lions. So logically both my wife & I pack heat when out on the trail. The wife has a Taurus .357 mag, and I have a .40 S&W Semi Auto. I'm looking to get a .44 Mag, but it's not in the budget. And since the .40 was bought for home defense, I don't want to trade as I don't want to give up the concealability, & night sites that I like in my .40

What do you all pack for trail guns if you do?

7mm Mag BAR. I like firepower. :D

An accurized 1911 is always an option. A .45 ACP round is pretty wicked. I have a Springfield Armory semi-comp version and it's very accurate. I have a Glock (forget the model) in .45 also which would make a nice home defense gun but it doesn't feel very good in your hands. I carry the glock when bearhunting though because it's DA so I can keep one in the chamber so I don't freak out trying to chamber a round.

I don't know exactly how close these encounters are and what kind of trails you ride so I can't really pass judgement on long arms.

.40 S&W Tactical. all of the time -- and if i'm out camping, i'll have my .357 with as well.

sometimes , i'll bring the AK out for fun :)

Currently carry a Taurus 9mm, pretty weak for bears even with +P hollow points, but I'm more worried about two legged trouble anyway (I've run into some real wierdos up in the mountains here)

Wife says she's getting me a Taurus Tracker Titanium .357 for our anniversary later this month though. I'll feel much better with a larger caliber and a wheelgun. (not to mention the weight)

I have a cap gun too :D (Beretta 21a)

LOL, someday I'll get a "real" gun... :D Would like an HK .45 USP Compact.. Or if my bro would sell his, a S&W 910.. The 910 is a nice gun to shoot. Very comfortable!

I’m an avid desert rat and when I go out into the badlands of the Mojave Desert in Cali I pack numerous firearms. I will carry concealed a Glock 23, .40 S&W, :wink1: and when I need that little extra “reach out and touch someone” I carry my Bushmaster XM-15 Carbine    which is a .223 with numerous 20 & 30 round mag's. (http://www.bushmaster.com/) I also carry about two to three hundred rounds for both weapons. Unfortunately, our desert is alive with forks who have other things on there minds instead of 4x4ing.

I have two 80rnd drums and several 30,40,50rnd clips -- usually enough ammo to reload several times. 7.62x39 is so cheap, it's silly not to have enough to chop trees down.

Well, I do carry a piece of PVC and starting fluid...

But if I need to go wheeling with a gun it must be in Detroit. I've only seen a couple bear wheeling and the only "close encounter" I had was with a wild dog. Even the local Moose will just yell at you and go about their business.

yeah, i was going to get an H&K USP .40 and then i saw the tactical, and was having a hard time deciding.

im glad i got the .40 S&W Tactical-- at least for now. one day i'll get the h&k usp .40

next on my list is Ar-50

my buddy has one. it's the sickest thing ever. i have some pics if you're interested in them.

[edit] what the hell, i'll just do a little hijacking...
