I have a buddy that is selling his car hauler the only problem I think it has is the title/registration was lost. It was registered at one time, then the first title was lost, so they did a "home built" trailer title. Now the home built title is lost, so I'd probably have to go that route to title it.
Will this effect any resale value it may have in the future?

It's a 16' with a 2' dovetail trailer rated for 7000#. It has a wood deck, new fenders, new spring bushings, new wiring harness and tail lights, and brakes that work, but it has passenger car tires on it. He only wants $850 for it from me, $1000 for anyone else... I figure it's a decent deal even with the title situation.

Wow he is not good at keeping track of his titles!

It really depends on your state - some trailers capable of 7000 lbs NEED a title.. so potentially somebody taking on the trailer from you would be unable to register it. pretty big factor on the resale.

it can be a hassle in my state with homebuilts.. I've heard you have to supply DMV a list of materials used and some goofy sh*t...

Mi wasn't to hard to get a title. Just needed a weigh slip and what the axles are rates for.

I know Mississippi isn't hard to get a home made title. All I'd have to do is fill out the piece of paper, have it notarized, and pay the fee. What would come into play is when I move out of Mississippi or sell it to someone that does not live in this state.

I do know it's become much more difficult in joysey (naziville) in recent yrs, it used to be easy peezy.. not even a notary, just fill out a form, pay money, done...

Very simple in Iowa to get a title. I suppose each state is a little different. Around here, everybody and there brother is building a trailer at some point.

I ended up buying the trailer. I had to fill out some paperwork, get it notarized, and mail it off so the state will issue it an identification number. After I receive the ID number I can go to the courthouse and title and register the trailer.

It will be Friday before I can get a picture of it. Working from 6:30am-5pm and then going to school from 6pm-10pm doesn't leave much time, or daylight to do anything

Here's the pictures of the trailer. This fall I plan to re-deck it, while the deck is off ill wire wheel the entire thing and POR-15 or rustbullet it, then top coat it. I've added the rear trailer jacks since I've had it.
