Hello, fellas im new to the forum, was gonna say how glad i am to be a part of the forum and looking forward to gaining the knowledge you all have to share. And also help with any i have to offer. Ive got a ?. I have a 84 chevy suburban 305, 700r4 4X4. The engine is a 87 one peice rear seal. The auto trans has finnally bit the dust, and ive found a manual trans local at a great price. The manual trans is in a Four speed 79 chevy truck 4x4 long wheel base. I can have the whole truck to swap things over ( i.e) peddels, cluch links, drive shafts, yokes any thing needed. Im thinking most parts are compatiable. except the flyweels, from the 87 to the 79 engines? Possiable the starter is diff also? If anyone has any info to help would be great. Possiable snags that ive over looked for the swap . Thanks

Welcome to CK5! This is a great forum. You will want to pay for a membership. You dont have to, But you will be able to see a lot more stuff here. And see pictures. Trust me, It will be the best $25.00 you spent.

I dont know the answer to your question, But somebody will have your answer quickly.

Not sure if you're engine has a pilot bearing but one will have to be put in. Will need flywheel as its not the same. Starter bolts through the trans housing so will need that too. It's good you have the whole truck to swap it all out. You may have to use the transfer case as well. I'm not sure yours will bolt up to the 465. Not an easy swap but one that I love to see. Anything else we can help with let us know. If there is no pilot bushing hole in your crank on the engine, it will have to be replaced with one that has been machined to accept a pilot bearing or bushing. That's all I can think.

a 79 uses a mechanical clutch. So there is a bracket on the frame you will need to get off and put on the other truck.

Or just find a hydro bellhousing and pedal assembly.

Trans?

Hey thanks for the welcome, and the replys. thanks for the reminder on the bushing. I will also be getting the trans and t case as a whole unit. is there a diff in the brake clutch peddles between the years 79-84. The donor truck has a slip yoke on the rear drive shaft, while my 84 has the 208 t case and does not. the truck is a long wheel base, wonder if the shafts will swapp? Again thanks
