ive got a 90 k5 with tbi350 and 700r4 raptor tranny and 241c tcase. Bought the rig and the tranny (I think) was making a whining/grinding noise when coasting not under load and only over 30-45 mph. Had the rear driveshaft rebuilt and new ujoint an yoke. Not running front driveshaft as its too short. Have a 6" lift on it. Drove truck after new driveshaft installed. Same noise. Actually now tranny is burnt up. No reverse and only has 1-2. Noticed what appeared to be oil leaking from output on tcase but can't be sure as I was driving it at the time. Started messing with it the other day and shifted tcase into 4L and then into neutral. Couldn't get it shift into anything else. Worked the trans shifter thru gears and back to park then to neutral then tcase shifted back to 2H. Had noticed prior when messing with front driveshaft that I couldn't turn the output on tcase by hand. Now it turns freely. Just trying to figure out what it is that caused all these issues if anybody has any advice.

if the transmission is burnt up you should open and inspect the 241 while you have it out. Sounds like you may have had the case in 4wd and that could have been the whine you were hearing.

It was really more of a grinding noise. You ever accidently put an auto trans in park while it was still rolling? Kinda like that. I'm assuming the tcase is part of the problem if not the whole problem. Gonna have it all torn out and rebuilt and checked. Hopefully get it figured out. I'm coming behind somebody else on this situation. Also the speedo is backwards. Key off it sits on 85. Driving it falls back to 70-75. Wierd. And there is a plug on the driver side of tranny that's wasn't plugged in. I of coarse waited till granny burnt up to plug it in.

plug on the tranny is prob the reverse light switch.

sounds like the t-case may have some issues.

I guess it coulda been half locked up or something. I had the mechanic service the tranny when I had the driveshaft rebuilt. He said the oil in the tcase looked like it had water in it. Milky oil. Guessing I'm answering my own questions huh? But I'm wondering if the ot cable or any of the other factors could have burnt the tranny up.
