Tranny fluid change interval

That depends so much on how you drive and your type of use. I change mine around every 10,000 to 12,000 miles which is way more frequent than the factory service interval. If you're lots of towing or slow heavy wheelin you may want to change it even more frequently. If you don't have a cooler you'd want to change it more than someone with a good cooler.
If you're not having problems with it just keep an eye on the fluid level and check the smell and colour occasionally.

My truck leaks out 3 qts of tranny fluid into the t-case every time it sits for more than a week. I just pour in 3 more qts and drain the t-case.

When I drove for a limo company, their mechanic changed the tranny fluid in the Town Cars every 20Kmi, or whenever a car had a transmission-related gripe written by a driver.

I change the fluid every 25k miles or so and do moderate towing...but I also have a 22k gvw aux cooler. Besides the good advice in the above posts, also make sure to check the fluid for metal shavings....it could mean it's not far from having problems.

Bought my '91 S-Jimmy brand new in 1992. The 700R4 in it now has 167K miles on the clock and still has the ATF in it that it left the factory with. :yikes: It did much of its first 100K in Houston, then the rest in Colorado, so it's seen some serious tempreature extremes.

OK, let me ask this how do you change the fluid? Do you just drop the pan and refill or take it to a shop and do the "power Flush" thing ??

As I do mine quite frequently I drain the pan (I fitted a drain bolt) only.

wow, I'm the guy gets paid to do it and I do it less than some of you guys :haha:

I recommend them at 30k or when the fluid looks pretty brown.
