something that will do double duty as a daily driver and towing the buggy.

700r4 (don't have) overdrive would be great.

th400 (already have) good runner, no rebuild required.

sm465 (already have) all hydro and clutch already

the truck had a manual so the pedals are already there. I was gonna do a 4wd in it before I parted it out so I have all the hydro stuff for the 465.

this will be a v-8 with a good low end torque set up.

I vote the 465, here's why:

I wouldn't put a used 700R4 into a tow rig (they're unreliable enough as it is). Plus you shouldn't use the OD when towing anyway. That makes this the most expensive option by a long shot which will more than offset any fuel savings.

The TH400 would likely be pretty good, but has a pretty high first gear which will make it pokey (and slip a lot, which means plenty of heat) at slower speeds.

The 465's super low 1st gear is great for towing, it's more efficient than the TH400 (more power and better mileage) and will be more reliable than an auto.
