I'm just waiting to burn my tranny up since I have a 400sbc, th350, 205, 3.08 gears and 35" tires. I drive it hard so I'm short lived.

Here's my question: I'm planning a trip on the local fire roads to Santiago Peak in the local mountains. Would it be best to do the accent in low gear (D1) to help the tranny out a little? Also, on the decent which will be about 6-8 miles @ about 5% - 10% grade if I use the low gear in 2wd will it have the same effect on the tranny as far as burning it up because of the high gears and taller tires? Any help would be appreciated.
