Tranny is dead!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 86 k5. 305/700R4/np208

I was leavin whataburger last night. went to pull out and heard a loud bang in the tranny. Now it slips in every gear, so now i'm gonna get it rebuilt. What kind of upgrades should I put in it to make it stronger? This is DD/trailrunner/mud/sand. How about senthetic oil for mileage?

you might want to check the tcase. when my case blew it wouldnt move at all except 4 low. and any other spot was grind and spin inside. pulled me plug and checked fluid and all sorts of bearing parts came out.

i think its defenatly the tranny i can hear it. i even put the t case in both hi and lowrange-still nothin. thanks for the tip though.

what tips do yall have for pullin the transmission. I have no transmission lift, what can I do to get this thing out. If i pull it myself it will save me money on the rebuild.

You can always rent a transmission jack from your local rental place. Rent it for one day for the pull and then rent it again from the re-install. IMO, that is worth it compared to some other riskier methods. I bought a tranny jack adapter from Harbour Freight that fits onto a standard garage jack. IIRC it wasn't very expensive. Much cheaper than a "real" transmission jack, anway, but also much taller, so it's hard to roll the tranny out on the jack when you're done.

If you don't have any lift in the truck, be sure to have a couple extra jacks on hand to lift one side of the truck up to slide the tranny out under the rocker panel. Or you can just throw it on the ground, grunt and wrestle it out, but extra jacks are free (from friends).

From what you are describing it sounds like the sun gear shell shelled out so stop driving it now or you will destory the case very quickly. Junk your 86 700r4 and look for 1987 -1992 700r4 because it will have the better internals and oil pump.
