Tranny noise

I bought a '97 Tahoe LT a few weeks ago with 120K on it. It's clean and ran really good with no noises or vibrations so I looked passed the mileage. I recently noticed a slight "whining" sound coming from the tranny. Any idea on what this might be? Would changing the fluid and filter make any difference? I heard it might be the torque converter on its way out.

Also, can the 4L60E be replaced with a 4L80E?

might go ahead and try changing the fluid and getting a new TC to put in there its an easy job on these trucks.
