i am a newbie here and recently bought a 77 k5, am goin through it, changing fluids ect. it has the th350 and when i had the thing flushed and new filter the mechanic showed me the pan, it was full of sludge. it was slipping a little and i hoped the new filter, fluid would help, it does shift better now, but my question is this, how long will this tranny last if i dont abuse it, i need a little time to save up the 700-800 bucks for a rebuild, any ideas? thanks

the sludge and slipping may be a result of the previous owner's failure to change the fluid (clogged filter). I have found the same sludge (looks like glitter) in a few vehicles I've bought, and means there is SOME wear, but with regular fluid changes, have had some of those same trannies last til the bodies fell off.

Id agree, as long as there is no metal pieces or chuncks in there, it ought to be good. $700-$800 sounds awful high for a th350 rebuild.
