So i get a call this evening from my dad he was on his way to work with his 1990 1500 chevy rwd extcab pickup and he lost all movement fromt he tranny. I arrive and try to diagnose if its the rear end of tranny on the side of the highway and see no movement from the driveshaft. So its the tranny probaly and i checked the fluid it was full and smelled great so what gives??? Anyway i had him leave it running in neutral while i pulled him to his work parkinglot, we got there and the park prowl still works but still no power. Im thinking bad pump?? Also the PO claims that the tranny is only 40,000 km old..

Trans is a 4L60 (previously known as the TH700R4) and its very likely that the trans is bad.

I don't know why anyone has any faith in "local" shop rebuilds of 700R4's, I've seen so many fail that its hard to trust hardly anyone rebuilding later model autos. Low mileage failures are not uncommon IME.

Drop the converter cover and check that the converter is still bolted to the flywheel. Is the linkage ok? ie: it's selecting gears? Is the t/case in 2hi?
