Ok where can I get one of these?!?!? You are looking at an Overrun Clutch Hub. It is my understanding it has to do with engine braking. I'm no professional but I'm stuck in the middle of a tranny rebuild. I don't want to have to spend 230$ at the gm house for the set of parts that include this.

ahhhhh WHAT TRANNY :whistle::whistle::whistle:

hit up a local tranny shop and see if thay have any used ones on the shelf in the storage room. lots of tranny shops tend to have lots of parts around.

I picked up a tail shaft for a 4l80-e 1 time for 40 bucks this way .

Call them, and they can get you ANY INDIVIDUAL PART.
I can guarantee you, that TranStar has anything you need, on their shelf.
Those are my go-to guys.
They're great.

Or Shift Management Incorporated.
They're bad-a$$es, too.

And, man... You better SCOUR that valve body, and the pumps.
I bet that front pump looks like HELL... :haha:

*Cough* ...Corvette Servo, shift kit, HD sun shell... *cough*

Oh, and if its not an '87-up case, THROW IT AWAY AND GET AND '87-UP.....

Got the servo shift kit and boost valve. Sun shell looks good but I may upgrade it since its gonna be down another week. Does the sun shell really need to be upgraded?

yep .

do a little light reading on 700/4l60 and the vast majority get them done and are better for it. those who don't wish thay had.

and as said wash / rinse / clean the whole unit as that broken stuff will get everyplace.

and don't forget a can of cooler flush to rinse the lines and cooler system out before you reinstall and send trash back in to a fresh tranny. http://www.northernautoparts.com/ProductModelDetail.cfm?ProductModelId=14453

Holy crap... yea, man.... Upgrade that sun shell. :waytogo:
Once you crack it, not "break it", but just crack it, and it starts to flex... *facepalm*

"The Beast" (HD Sunshell) is $50-$70... And WELL worth it.
Think about the time it takes to remove the trans, and replace it.
BAM! It just paid for itself. :D

Good call, I forgot to say that.

Someone told me even the dealerships rebuild them with the beast. Sounds legit :dunno:

I'd probably spend money on the beast before servos if I didn't have the money. One, cuz the shell will probably destroy other stuff if it fails, whereas the 2/4 band will just burn up. Two, cuz the servos can be changed in-truck and all you have to do is dump about half a quart back in. In fact, I just put a billet OD servo in my k1500 last night cuz I had to drive to Fresno and back today to pick up my buddy's Sorento from a dealer that couldn't remove a crank bolt. Morons.

OK, I ordered the "BEAST" (Monster Transmission) sunshell, and was going to order the tranny flush from same company but found the same exact brand half price locally.

ANYONE that rebuilds a 700R4, and DOESN'T upgrade the Sunshell,
Is not worth their salt as a tranny builder.
It HAS to be done.

I've personally seen the inter-office communications about the 700R4 design.
The engineers were asked to "lighten component castings" for "cost savings." :doah:

Did you know it was Re-engineered from a fairly stout transmission,
Into a cheesy component-ridden, time bomb? :haha::thumb:

Oh, GM's Corporate offices..... Them some sons-a-b*tches.

I'm pretty sure I read in the Ron Session TH350 book that there was a similar situation with the TH350s, and all the later shells are heavier. ****in' corporate bean counters. I think I remember mic'ing the ones I have and finding one of the thinner ones.

Bean Counter motto: "As long as it makes it passed the warrantee!" or we can blame it on the consumer

FTFY :D

Reminds me of Dodge trying to back out of their drivetrain warranty on a couple of my friends' rigs because they put 33"s on a 3/4 ton with stock rims and no lift.

Ok got my beast Sunshell from Monster transmission, flush and used sprag unit from transtar in Dallas for only $40. Lets get this thing back together now!
