Tranny swap question?

I just lost 3rd & 4th gear today at lunch. Should I rebuild the 700R4 or swap in a 4L80e? I can get the 4L80e free from a truck at work that burned up. It's out of a 1 ton 4x2 cab & chassis. What is the price difference? I know I would need a cpu for the 4L80e, but would I need a new output shaft and adapter plate for a Np241?

I vote 4l80e. I hate 700r4s. If you do go with a 700r4 be sure to go with a beefed up one.

You did not say if this is for the Jimmy or Suburban. If it's for the Suburban I'd stick with a 700R4. It's a direct swap without having to deal with any of the computer/connector issues, and I have had 2 well built 700R4's that hauled 13k plus pound Truck/Camper/Boat combos with no problems. Get the corvette servos and make sure to get the better disc packs and all the mods in the rebuild.
