Ok so I have decided to do a manual to automatic swap in my 86 k5. I found a th400 married to a 208 but have suspicions that it may possibly not just bolt right up with my drive lines. Are my suspicions correct or should it go right on?

little more detail would probably help you get an answer. What are you running currently?

Not that I can really help, I don't know enough, but with a little more info some of the smarter guys on here might be able to give you an answer.

Judging by your callsign "86k5" that's probably what you've got.
yes it will bolt up, you need to get the trans/transfercase cross member with it, and yes you should probably plan on hunting for some Driveshafts also.

but, that is a fairly common swap.

So ya, I have the factory 4 speed with a 208. Are you saying that I problably will have to get new drivehshafts as well. The tranny has the crossmember atached already so that will not be an issue.

I'm not sure if that particular mix of T case and Trans came on a blazer chassis or not but, I'm sure that part exist to make it happen, it's all light duty GM parts. Give this question a few hours, for more people to see it someone's got to know if a blazer came this way or not.

SM465 / NP208 is common in 81+ K5s. Your driveshafts will still fit using a TH400 / NP208, use the same crossmember, in the same location.

I dont believe your existing driveshafts will work. The front should be pretty common to find. I dont think the blazer ever came with a TH400 except in the CUCV behind the diesel. It would just be a matter of sending yours in and having it shortened I would think.

I could very well be wrong, but I think that GM standardized the lengths of all their transmission / t-case combination lenghts in 81 when they started to use the NP208. I know that I was able to re-use my driveshafts from a 700r4 / 208 truck with my NV4500 (and NV3500) / NP241 combinations, which also worked with my SM465 / NP208 combo.

yeah if you have the short adapter it should all be pretty much the same.

only one way to tell for sure though.

I think your right. The price is right. Im just going to try it. Whats the worst that could happen. Ive definately made bigger mistakes in my life!!!

By the way it is out of a 1988. It should be an electronic speed sensor shouldnt it? not cable?

SO will the column from a 350 be the same as one from a 400? They are willing to throw in a column but only have one from a 350.

it should still be cable driven if its pasenger drop.
and if by column you mean shifting it? its the same.

but snag everything you can.

ALL NP208 passenger drop cases are mechanical speedo. The NP241 came out in 1989 and was the ONLY year for a mechanical speedo.

From what i've heard 1981-up were all the same as far as overall length as GM changed the adapter length to accomodate this.

i have a 400/241 at home for cheap if the 400/208 doesnt work for you
i also have a good 241 for cheap from a th400
