i currently am running a 350/203 setup and am looking at buying a 400/ 205 setup, but the more i look at posts at this sight the more i see people talking/ leaning towards a 700r4 for various reasons, although alot of ppl run the 400/205, i want to stick with auto so i dont need info on that, i can make the modifications to put any setup in, so what i need to know is what should i go with ...
original setup and save my money 350/203
buy a 400/205 combo
or get a 700r4 in probably with a 208 then eventually swap in a 205 in time?
also if u go with the 400/205 why, and if going to buy what to watch out for

700R4 is WAY too fragile and difficult to set up for my taste. I'd go either 350/205 or 400/205. 400 is more bulletproof but 350 is almost as good.

the 700R4 has the lowest first gear ratio of the three. 3.06:1 and has a 0.7:1 overdrive. the 700 isn't any weaker then the 350. A good rebuilt one will hold up. I run a 83 never rebuilt one. Maybe I'm lucky, mine is different from the newer ones. Found that out when I ordered my stall converter.

I don't see what is so difficult to setup. The tv cable is super simple. you can get a 1 wire hookup for the lockup converter.

now when it comes to the T-case. the NP205 is bulletproof. you can run one behind the 700R4, you will need a 350 to 205 adapter housing and a new tail shaft. advanced adapters has the shaft.

My dream combo is a 700R4 into a klune-v into a 205. lighter then a 203/205 doubler, better gearing, and smaller. mostly because I already have the 700 and 205.

i got to say im leaning towards a decently built 700r4, im not doing any serious rock climbing or anything either this is just a mud, trail, truck plus i take long trips with it and overdrive would be nice
