Will a th400 governer fit a 700r4...?

IIRC, the 400 governor will not interchange with the 350/700 style as the spring rates are very different. The end cover clearance difference is important too.

Then there's the problem with the WOT shift if the circular verses square cutout flyweight are not interchanged.

Other than that, they interchange ---- but why?

It's been years since I retired and closed both my transmission shops in SoCal. I haven't had my fingers in a unit since 2004.

How's that for an old f@rt's memory?

The gears are cut at a different angle opposite of each other. You can interchange the weights to achieve a desired shift rpm.

thanks guys. I was thinking of swapping trannys between my 'burbs with one of them being behind a diesel.

What size diesel? The 700 isn't very robust for a diesel above a 5.7D or so since a lot of the parts are pretty much older THM350 ("C" model or not) design. Even with a 5.7D - I'd be pretty worried about scattering a 700.

Probably talking about a 6.2 diesel. A 700 should be fine for that, and you can build a 700 pretty strong. The 6.2s aren't known for big power, a mild small block eclipses their torque level pretty easily.
