building 88 blazer how good is a 700r4? for hard driving and towing ?i have a built th 350 trans but would like the overdrives lower 1st and 2 gearing. im running a 388cid 350hp engine 35"tires and 3:73 gearslooked at a jet unit but serious cash any recomendation on where to look at a qaulity modified rebuild? also some torquconverter knowledge as in stall lock up or non thanks /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif

You aren't gonna see much help from the overdrive while towing, especially with your gear ratio and tire size. The powerplant sounds decent but you will burn up the 700R4 trying to run OD and tow. I think the TH400 was the strongest of the auto trannies for hard use but I may be wrong.

To get any real use out of the OD you'll have to re-gear the axles (lower) .. if you're thinking of the swap for mileage reasons, it may not be economical, meaning you have to use up a LOT of gas to pay for the trans, adaptor and re-gearing.

That said, I really like my 700R4, except I wish my gears were a bit lower (I have 4.56 with 35's)

I really like my 700R4 and have no intention of getting rid of it. If it goes I will buy one of Bowtie Overdrives trannys. It's good up to like 800hp so I dont think I will have any problems. Later

3.73 with 35"tires = 3.40 with 31"tires wich is factory in my 88 i want to keep 700r4 for the lower 1&2 gears if it can be modified and take some abuse
