Would a 4L60E bolt into my 87 383/208 or am I stuck with the700r4.Is the 4L60E any better than the 700r4 or is it the same tranny just an upgraded version? muchas grassyass

a 4L60E will bolt up inplace of a 700r4 if its a 4wd version, but you will need a stand alone computer to run the 4L60E. those are $$$

the late 700r4 and the 4L60E are very close to the same tranny, the only difference is the valve body for the computer controls. not worth swaping in my opinion.

Since I want to stay auto any other suggestions.Maybe try to build up my 700r4.Oh ya I need the od because I do alot of highway driving.Plus I get 15 mpg /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

they claim a 700r4 is great when built right i tried 3 used ones all with the same results *yuck* all 3 went out and had slip and power loss /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

they are a good tranny, mainly when you find a good builder.

just find a good builder to build a 700r4 and it should last you. they can be beafed quite a bit, but it does come at a price, usually around $1000.

if you want to go threw the hassle, you best bet would be a 4L80E, but you need to change tcase (or input), get the correct adapter, lengthen/shorten driveshafts, and get a standalone computer. they are $$$, the tranny and the comps

Thanks for the suggestions.I guess I will stay with the 700r4 and just try and beef it up and put on a tranny cooler. At least I have the stronger version.

I'd heard that the 4L80 was a good strong box but expensive.
