I have been trying to decide what kind of tcase to get to replace my np 208 and was wondering if I could use a dana 300? I have an 82 k10 sub with a 350 / th350 / 208 (with slipyoke). If I can, is it better or worse than a 205 or 203? Does anybody have any experience with a dana 300?

Also can you reuse lock nuts with the nylon insert? Or is it best to replace them. They are new on new bolts and now I have to make some changes and have to undo all the nuts.

Any help would be great THANKS

is anything wrong with your 208? if not I would wheel it till it breaks and then go with the 205. The 208's a respectable in there own right, they have a nice low range, and total breakage is rare as far as I know. I would recomend the 205 over the 300 mainly cause the 205 was offered in Chevys, swaps dont take crazy adaptors, and its a near indestructable cast iron gear driven monster of an X-fer case. My current truck is the secong truck I've swapped one in, and I know many friends that have used them, and I have NEVER heard of anyone breaking them. You want something stronger, buy an Atlas

A Dana 300 is just a bit too small for our big trucks. If I were you, I would rebuild the case you have now if you're having problems. Are you having problems?

drop the hammer-- The 300 is gear driven, and you can twin stick it like a 205 as well.

The dana 300 is not nearly as strong as a 205 but it is smaller and lighter.

There are plenty of people that break 208's.

I've reused lots of nyloc nuts, but you have to realize that they are less effective each time you reuse them.

I would stick with a Chevy case.

no, no problems I just want to get rid of the slip yoke and I would like to have more sticks to play with (ha ha). I dont want to spend the money right now on a 205, I am saving to get an engine. I have gotten opinions before bout how about a 203. What would it take to make it part time and twin stick, is it strong than a 208

Very True, Forgot all about that. I have been trying to forget any jeep knoledge I aquired from when I (hate to admit) had a jeep. I just feel the 205 is a stronger easier swap

There you have it, I havent done it but I guess 208's break. I never had one in my old Ford or K-5 that long before I swapped in a 205.

................Have grenaded a few 700-R4's though:doah:

Don't forget that the Jeep D300 uses either a 21 or 23 spline input. Not sure how much in the Chevy world has that spline count on the output shaft. The replacement shaft for either the tranny or t-case may cost more than buying a 205. The Scout D300 is even worse. It uses a different bolt pattern to attach to the tranny so it won't adapt to a tranny set up for an NP2xx case without an expensive adapter.
