So when you mount a powersteering cooler I've read it's important to not mount it with the ports facing downward or to not mount it higher than the tank so as to not trap air. Now with a tranny cooler it wouldn't really be possible to mount it below the pan. So that would be thrown out. What about mounting the cooler with the ports downward like in the Picts?IMG_20160711_191935472.jpg IMG_20160711_191920409_TOP.jpg

I am going to say that it has been done like that lots, even if it doesn't follow logic.
I have even found them installed like that in factory installation on semi trucks.
I don't know if the transmission is less sensitive to aeration of the oil due to the larger reservoir. ( the pan)
???

I would turn it 90* if possible, but use it as shown if necessary.

I just did a bunch of research on this before I mounted all my coolers...My understanding is if its a BIG tranny cooler and its mounted high up in the vehicle.. I.E. hammers buggy with giant duel coolers mounted where the back window would be..then you should mount the cooler with the ports up to avoid any drain down and overflowing of the transmission which could cause a leak. If its the relative size of the factory cooler and the same relative height as the factory location, then it doesn't matter which way the ports are. Transmissions are good at moving fluid in both directions. Power steering pumps are good at pushing, but the suck at sucking..thats why the cooler/ return line for power steering needs to be short, straight and as close to the pump as you can get it.
