the rad for the air?the A/C has been gone for 14 years. it has an auxilary cooler for the trans now and has never over heated. now that JR spends lots O time off road it gets to where i can't spin the tires.:doah:i know i need a windstar fan,but until then can i use the AC rad?PLUS the the auxilary cooler is hooked up as so. the bottom hard line goes into the main rad and the top goes to the aux.then back the main rad.that does not seem like enough BUT??thats why i''m asking.:D watcha think?

whoops didn't pay attention, just meet me up at scrap busters off of ecorse and hannah rd lets go get some :) there are atleast 4 winstars up there :D

So you want to use the A/C condenser as a trans cooler?
if your talkin bout pic #2 ? yes if i can Justin.it's bigger than the auxilary one.if not i'm putting the line right back in the radiater.the aux one is 4 inches from the rad and the fan ain't pullin chit through that at idle.

No you pay a buck, go in grab the stuff you need, use generic names like fan etc pay the list price ie windstar fans are like 12 bucks I think

sweet, we need to get there soon.Jess i'm going outside to enjoy the sun for a few.i'll call you tommoeow as mine phone is off right now.

So does your original question matter any more Daryl?:haha:

I'm not really sure... but it seems like your tranny would have to push a lot of fluid to get it through all three...:dunno:

i mean only using the AC one.my ADD kicking in,sure lets go to the junkyard.. i want to eliminate the other two .i'm thinkin its bigger so maybe it will cool faster.

I've heard of it being done before, just not sure if it's a good idea or not. I suppose you'd have to measure the pressure of the fluid before the made-for-trans cooler and then hooked to the condensor to make sure you don't have a restriction. The fittings/inner diameter is pretty decently sized, correct?

Comparing the size of the coils in the coolers vs. the cooling lines coming out of the transmission, obviously there needs to be little restriction in the cooler. The fluid would have a lot further to go in the condensor.

I have no idea what sort of different properties tranny fluid has from R-12.

this would be a temerary fix till i move eveything to the back.so maybe it's not worth the work?but the season is here and the trans runs hot as hell.the JR used to pull a trailer with the PO. it had 13 leaves in the rear and a bigass receiver hitch set up.so i asume the trans had the cooler installed for that reason.but as we know dick the dog speed offroad means heat .and my trans is the first to go.( i hate autos).the pile i'm about to bring home has an sm465:bow:.but that could be awhile till its done.the trans swap won't happen this year so i need to make what i have work.:D

I was told by many tranny shops that the AC condensor is too restrictive to use as a tranny cooler. I wouldn't trust it myself anyhow since there was freon in it at one point. I would just buy a good stack plate cooler and call it good. Yes it's going to cost you, but alot less than rebuilding a transmission should it fail because you tried to save a buck. :deal:
