My truck 90k5 sits way more than it gets used. The problem I have is after sitting for a long period of time I have a large puddle of T-fluid on the cement driveway. So my assumption is the converter is draining back and then it is coming out the over flow? Does this seem logical? Every thing else is dry and clean....

1. does this mean the converter is bad or is this just normal
2. how do i prevent this from happening as it stains the hell out of the cement drive.

thank you

There is no overflow. There's a vent at the top, but there's no way the transmission is that full. Where do you see the oil? Usually the leak will be from the pan, the front seal or back into transfer case. How much oil are you adding? A plugged vent can make it push fluid past a seal.

I end up putting in a anywhere from 1/2 to 1 qt. it just depends. I have not been able to find where the leak is from as when I return home and craw under there, its dry and clean. I have not been able to catch it the day it happens, as I am usually not at the same spot the truck is located on a regular.

my guess would be that the torq. is draining back and then it must be leaking at the trans pan rails. If I just leave the trans low, and don't top it off it will only leak like this usually about twice and then it wont leak again until I decide to run the truck and top of the fluid again.

My guess is you have a 700r4?

It has a hole in the extension housing from the pan to lube the output shaft, the leak is from the converter draining and coming out where the trans and tcase seal.

My truck does this constantly.

First, I have to just suggest driving it more often!!
:saweet:

I would check at the dipstick tube grommet and the electrical plug for the torque convertor lock-up. If leaking at either of these places, it can run the pan rail. Be mindful of that, you may have to check closely above the pan rail as it will collect at the pan gasket and fool you.

You should check to see if the transfer case is overfilled. There is no output seal on the transmission and it's not uncommon for fluid to get past the double seal on the T-case input. Be ready for a gusher, though.
