well i lost 3rd gear in my 700r4. its been slippin and it finally took a dump. this one didnt even last a year.

im tired of blowing these up and dont have the 1200$ to spend on a built one.

i can get a fully built th400 w/ torque converter for around five hundred.

i would really like to go that route but i need everything to go smoothly upon install.

has anyone done this swap? what do i need to buy/ fab to make this work. i want to have everything ready so i can bang it out one sunday and run into no problems.

the truck is a 90 k5. 350 motor. 700r4. np241.

"been slippin for awhile"

was this a recently rebuilt unit? if so, it's either a shotty, half-assed rebuild, it's not being properly setup after install, or you're driving it like it's a Corvette.

if it had been slipping for awhile, i would have probably been talking with the builder and see what they can do about fixing it the right way.

I just paid $825 to have mine rebuilt by a highly recommended shop and friend of a friend, he seemed like he knew what he was doing, told me everything that the pervious rebuilder didn't do and fixed / replaced every part that needed attention in mine.

These transmissions are not as bad as alot of people on here like to trash talk them, they need to be taken care of and if you want to race the hell out of your truck and engine, then it needs to beuilt for such useage, as with most all transmissions.

any backstory as to why you "keep going through them" ?

well ive actually decided to rebuild another 700r4. doin it the right way. ive done some research and found a real good guy.

victor at holly trans in stanhope nj.

what are some upgrades i should do. this one needs to last. im tired of going the cheap way and such.

the one thats in there now was done on a budget by a supposedly reputable shop around here that closed its doors. so out went the warranty.

What gear ratio are you running? With 36" tires, I would think you might want 4.56 gears to make a 700R4 last.

my sig needs to be updated, sorry.
i got 35x12.5 dunlops now.
3.73 gears.

what upgrades should i do to the 700r4
