Ok I am being screwed here and really pissed but just wondering how to get this damn thing in



oh 6" Lift With 38.5's And it is Currently Sitting on those tire skates
I got an 86 K20
350 465 205

I got the trans out with one jack and like 5 jackstands now I need to put it in and am looking for strategies to do it


I have One Floor Jack

2 6 Ton Jackstands (Tall)

2 2.5 Ton Ones ( Medium)

2 2 Ton Ones (Short)


No Engine Crane ( I wish)


Any Ideas

ALl I can say is it sucks having one jack , and it not being a trans jack.

6" lift, wheel skates, how much clearance frame to floor would you have if you pulled the tires off? Even without doing that, pulling the tires off and using jackstands, one corner at a time, should get you to a reasonable height.

My '86 you can't remove the trans tunnel without some spot weld cutting, yours I'm assuming is the same.

The 465 is a bear to get in because the bellhousing hits the motor before you get the trans far enough forward to clear the shifter tower on the floorpan. Really need it low enough that you can manhandle the trans, but having a floorjack to support your efforts helps, and I suspect with the 38's and 6" lift, that's a long ways off the ground.
 
yeah i got it strapped to the jack with stands now just need to slide it in i wish it was easier then it sounds lol

I went threw the same crap that you are going threw. I said F it and went out and rented a tranny jack.

i had to install a 350 trans and 208 tcase on an 88 with sas and 4 inch lift by myself with a ****ty floor jack. my suggestion is get a trans jack and a friend.
 
I ran two straps from frame to frame under the trans and transfercase. I tighten them up a little at a time and i got a 400/208 back in 4 times. All by my self. I did have a floor jack and blocks of wood to help lift. It can be done. I fogot the spacer that goes between the motor and trans then when i thought i had it. The thing had dropped on the other side. Thats why i had to install it 4 times.
 
aha well it is somewhat in but sitting under the rig on 4 jackstands it is just so much harder being a manual transmission i just have nobody to help so it will sit till either my dad helps or somebody else can
 
I got quoted 20 bux a day for a trany jack that would lift about 34" and your about 1.5 hrs away or I'd be all about helpin ya too. I may be able to help next weekend after all my finals are done.
 
ive helped do 4 tranny swaps, puttin them back in is a bit**. what we did was use a jack and made a wood thing to put on top so that it would get more height to get up there, he had 6" and 35's. after about 30min of struggling we got it in. same thing for the t-case, cept didnt take as long.

get the tranny jack if u can
 
that would be sweet if you could just let me know all my friends wont wrench anymore ,and the ones that do are know it all 's and never want to do anything but watch
