Okay I am pulling my trans tonight, hopefully for the last time.

Heres the problem, its leaking, pretty bad. The leak appears to be coming from the pump somewhere. I plan on replacing the pump to torque converter seal and the pump to housing seal. I have replaced one already.

One thing I am thinking that never was a problem before is I have to slide the torque converter foward to get it to bolt up to the flywheel. Not far probably 1/8 inch. But if I am not mistaken if the torque converter is not engaged to the pump nothing will work.

The surface on the torque converter seems fine no nicks scratches or anything of the such, no sharp edges to cut the seal on.

One thing that is weird to me is it doesn't leak alot right away it take a bit to leak alot.

Any suggestions comments etc thanks guys

Everytime I installed one I had about a 1/8" clearance. Your right it wouldn't work if it wasn't engaged to the pump. How long does it take before your new seal goes bad? Do you know how much pressure your tranny is running? Do you know if your torque converter has any bad runout? Do you lube the seal before you install it?

It actually leaks right away, it just gets worse the more I run it.

Something has got to be wrong I just can't tell what everything looks good might try a new torque converter but I would rather not if I don't have too

Check to see if you have any run out on the torque converter. After you pull the tranny bolt the torque converter back up to the flex plate. Mount a dial indicator to you block and put the tip of the dial indicator towards the end. Pull out all of your spark plugs so the engine is easy to turn over and have someone turn over the engine by hand as you watch the indicator to see if you have any run out. If no run out I wouldn't change the T/C. Also check the flex plate really well to make sure it is tight and is not cracked anywhere. If it is cracked it can make your t/c move all over. Be sure to pack petroleum jelly behind the seal so your spring behind it doesn't pop out when your beating in the new seal. Also put a thin film of oil or PTFE lube on the seal before you put your T/C in.
