So Im debating weather or not to get a column CABLE shift linkage instead of running my rod linkage I'm thinking with body flex and all that, thats why it pops out of gear. I do have new body mounts coming, but I just wanted to see what people are running out there and what works for them.

I run the stock rod, and I have a longbed p/u, with a 2" body lift and poly bushings, I don't have a problem with it popping out of gear, and it has a lot of frame flex.

I plan on running hydro when I drop the 465 in mine. My buddy runs linkage on his '75 Bronco and has the popping out of gear problem. Beyond just popping of gear, he has problems shifting when his frame gets tweaked too. I figure I'm starting from scratch, so I might as well go hydro.

Do they make what you are talking about, or is it something you'll have to create? I've heard/seen the cable floor shifters, never one that kept the stock shifter on the column.

I'm sure it would eliminate coming out of gear if it is related to frame flex. You'd have to be careful and have help, but you could try running without the linkage at the transmission hooked up, see if the problem goes away to confirm that is indeed the problem.

Another thing comes to mind, is your linkage actually all there? I don't deal with automatics much, but as I recall there is a spring and plastic piece that are part of the linkage near the transmission, those being broken or missing could cause problems.

I'm retarded. I was thinking clutch linkage. I've never had the problem with an auto. I'm not sure if they have that for the tree or not. In any event I'm sure you could gank the cable out of some newer car in the jy and retro-fit it to work on your app.

Is the column shifter actually moving, or is it staying put and the tranny still jumping out of gear?

If the shifter is moving, you may just need to adjust the linkage so it's hitting the detents correctly...or your column mechanism may be worn out. It shouldn't be able to to move unless you pull it towards you.

Actually Lokar does make a kit. It mounts straight to your column pretty sweet set up. Also Another company call ididit.com.I might just try it it cant hurt. My column is fine I really think its popping with frame flex or when Im under load. Thanks though
