ha , finnally got my DL back today after two long years!!! then my blazer decided to crap out on me......yteah thats the kind of luck i have!! will go in reverse and start out in low gear......after getting it going down the road i can manually shift up through the gears with no problem , even passing gear works.........until i come to a stoplight or stopsign then i have to shift it back into low to get it going again. will not start off in 2nd , drive or overdrive. pulled the pan found the end of a dipstick.....not mine....lol and various shrapnel. any idea what could have happened ? it is driveable just dont know how long it will last ...........HELP PLEASE!!!! FLUID LOOKED GOOD WHEN I REPLACED THE FILTER , WITH THEW EXCEPTION OF THE METAL SHRAPNEL IN THE PAN.oh , and how much can i expect to spend on a decent 700r4?

yeah , i agree!! my brother in law works for love chevrolet in columbia , south carolina and he says he can get a reman one from jasper and have it here friday so i can put it in this weekend. 1400.00 , ever heard any thing good or bad about their trannys? i personnaly have never used any of their products , but it comes with a 3 year 100,000 mile waranty. any thoughts about this as he is going to order it first thing in the morning. its mostly going to be street driven with 31/10.5/15 tires and the stock 3.08 gears.

I haven't heard anything about Jasper but get rid of those 3.08 gears and you'll make that 700R4 alot happier. 3.73's would be a good gear with a 31" tire. My 89 blazer came factory with 31" and 3.73's and it was excellent.

i'm guessing on the gearing , how do i tell for certain? I just assumed they were 3.08 s , oh the blazer was originaly a 6.2 diesel , dont know if that matters as far as the gearing goes ?

The only 100% positive way to know what the gearing is would be to pull the diff cover and count the ring and pinion gear teeth and divide the ring gear by the pinion gear.

Is the blazer still a diesel? The reason i ask is because the torque convertor and governor are different between a gas and diesel.

no , the previous owner changed it over to a 305 gas engine. dont know if he changed the converter oanything in the tranny or not . thanks for all of your help.

my 90 Blazer has the 700R-4 and 3.08's...it's not bad on 31's. I definitely won't go to a bigger tire without regearing though.

Is your TV cable hooked up?

Rene

yeah , tv cable is hooked up and adjusted properly , just all of a sudden started making strange grinding noises the the tranny started dying on me. like i said in my earlier post , i pulled the pan and found all kinds of shrapnel including an old 3-4 inch end of a tranny dipstick , so i guess its time to go ahead replace the 700 r4 with a new one. i suppose it was its time to go .....as usual always happens when money is tight , lol
