I got the new to me trans TH400 and twin sticked 205(Changing from TH350 & 205) and while I was relocating the cross member I noticed that the clearance for the front yoke is not good. Think I should put one of the old Yokes on, but what is the square type yoke used for? Is there any spacers that could go under the adapter?

The original front shaft is usually a CV shaft so there is some front-back space to gain from that, but the square flange does look pretty close to the crossmember at the bottom. I think my original 205 output was not square like that. It looked very similar to the yoke on the front diff and held a u-joint end for the CV. It had a little more clearance than that one.

Edit: Your crossmember looks different than mine so that may be why there's a difference. What did yours come out of? The originals have a bigger drop under the adaptor than that one appears to have.

Depending on how tight things are with that output flange, something as simple as a couple scraps of 1/2" flat stock with a couple holes drilled in it could lift that case up enough to solve the problem.

That crossmember looks just like my 72 205 crossmember. I would think a CV type yoke would give you a little more clearance?

It also looks like your going to have a problem with the shift selector from those photos? Also I have the CV style and it's pretty close so a flange is likely pushing forward like Brain said.

I'd try the flat stock under the t-case and keep the flange if it's doable.

The cross member is my original from the 350/205 combo. That square flange came on the new t-case. I've got my old one so I'll try installing the cv style yoke and see if it has better clearance.

The Yoke style is a 10 spline while the flange style is a 30 spline so you aren't going to be able to swap yokes without swapping the front output.
