I need a transfer case and am very close to broke with no income. I figured I could take off the transfer case and put a 2WD driveshaft off of a C-10 onto the truck. The guy who has my truck right now said there is no way that can be done because the tranny needs to directly link up to a transfer case. I cannot get a bigger driveshaft because it won't go in the tranny and there is nothing I can buy to link it up.

I don't believe him. Was he being honest with me? I think you can at least buy some type of connection to get the tranny to have a driveshaft with no transfer case. Right?

In a 4 wheel drive trans the output shaft is shorter to connect directly to the transfer case. In a standard 2 wheel drive version there is a longer output with a shroud to seal the transmission when the driveline is in place. If you were to attempt to use a 2 wheel drive driveline with your case it most likely won't reach, and will have no way of keeping the trans fluid in the transmission without that extension.

Extention? So it can work with a few extra parts? Sounds like I might be spending just as much as I would buying a used transfer case, but is it possible with an extention piece?

In order to change the output shaft you have to tear down the entire trans and swap it out, then bolt the extension on. Without the longer output shaft you won't have enough output length to reach the driveline. It would be a ton of work and cost to swap it out, much cheaper to just replace the whole transmission with a 2 wheel drive unit.

Pick n pull junkyard is your friend. Im not sure if they do it anymore but wednesdays used to be 1/2 price days. Theres usually a few 4x4s chevys in there
