Could anyone possibly tell me what dimension the bolt is supposed to be that holds the front end of the transfer case brace to the flywheel housing on a 6.2L diesel? Also, any idea how fun it will be to get the remainder of the old, broken-off bolt out from within the threaded hole...? I expect happy times. :doah:

Much obliged, Greg! Still some work before I can get a new bolt in, though...

I can't say for sure, but most all GM transmissions went to metric sized case fasteners starting in 1976. The bolts are a little over an inch in length.

Interesting I never new they went to metric. Do you know the reasoning beind the change?

same reason they started throwing 10mm bolts at the body parts in the same era... to appease the "we must incorporate the metric system" bs of the late 70's...

I was under the impression that they went metric with the 700-r4 switch over and that if it screws into a pre 95 small block(imagine a deisel the same) it is a standard bolt(3/8N.C.)If it screws into a 700 or 4L80 the bolt is metric .350, and 400 were standard?Body and frame were mixed but mostly standard. Am i missing something?

I just keep metric and standard everything handy when working on my '89 I can never tell what it's going to be.

Starting in 1976 they mixed it up a bit. Selector shaft bolts went metric as did speedometer hold down and kickdown bolts, even on a 350 or 400 with standard pan bolts, extension housing, pump etc. They went full Metric with the TH-200, then TH-2004R, 700 and so on down the line as new models were introduced.
