Just picked up an '86 Jimmy today on trade for some useless to me stuff I had laying around. The engine is bad, supposedly a cracked piston ring. But I'll be swapping another small block in soon.

It has a 350 SBC and TH350, but I can't I.D. the transfer case. I can't find the tag. I found some numbers, but all I had to get the mud off of them was some spit and it didn't work too well.

I believe it's a NP203, just wanted to verify.

Also, I have manual hubs on the front axle, if the transfer case is a NP203 would this indicate that a part time kit was installed or maybe somebody just swapped the t-case in.

Here's some photos.

Definitely a 203.

The hubs aren't a guarantee that it has a part time kit, you'll have to shift it and check how the driveshafts spin to know for sure.

Thanks for confirming. I guess I'll figure out if the part time kit was installed when I get the new engine in.

Is there any way to physically identify a part time kit install?

You'd have to disassemble the tailhousing, spider gears mean it's stock and if it has anything else to lock it up, it's a part time kit.
