Can anyone recommend a jack or rig-up that makes a transfer case less of a ballbuster? I used 2 jacks and a whacked up,screwed together TJI/blocks to do it last time but that still required the no-show help to show:whistle:

i've never removed a transfer case, but my scissor style harbor freight trans jack is pretty sweet for $60 or so. Throw a 1/2" adapter on my cordless impact, and it moves pretty fast.

Plus, its cheap, so I have no reservations about drilling some holes in it to mount boards, steel, etc. Whatever makes it easier. I'd think a few well placed blocks would handle a transfer case well.

That being said, if your truck isn't stock height, you may have issues.

Here is how I built mine..... 36" high at the center shaft at full extension.... I can handle a T-400 and a complete doubler ( assembled ) myself.... :)

I think what you'll find is that most of us that have decided not to deal with the hassle of wrestling around with a heavy t-case above your head have sort of fabricated our way into a solution that involves a transmission jack of some type.

Bottom line - GET A TRANS. JACK. You will NOT be sorry, trust me that darn tool was one of the best investments I've ever made. Putting a manual tranny in and being able to line up the clutch, output shaft and all that works with a transfer case bolted up was like a dream. I was dreading the job last time before doing it but with my stuff it went together like butter.

Here's what I did with my trans jack:

So this example shows a very different transmission and t-case type from the example above, but the fabrication involved is really simple. Less than an hour of work barely will save you plenty of headache later! Good luck!

:waytogo:Thanks Guys! I'm hoping not to have to buy a tranny jack just yet but you've given me plenty of material for that project when I do! Right now all I need to do is make sure I've gotten all the governor chunks out of the case and I can't quite convince myself the shop vac trick actually got'em all....so....who knows....maybe a trip to HF this weekend

:woot:Sometimes, just SOMEtimes I say, inlaws come through for me...wifes cousin has an adapter platform just like in Highpsi's pics  Thank You for showing me what the h*ll that crazy looking thing is for :waytogo:
