My NP208 is popping out of 4H, to 2H.
Is that an adjustment on the shifter?
It stays in 4L with out a problem.

mine does the same thing and i asked the same q uestion and i guess after u lift ur truck and drop ur tcase the linkage gets all outta adjustment so u have to adjust the linkage... i havent really looked into it yet though on how u actually adjust it..

Yup. That is most likley the problem. Its not fully engeged into 4H. I bet it pops out whe you give it some gas like on a hill. Mine did the same thing after the t-case was lowered. It is simple to adjust from under the truck. Just climb under their and you will see. My NP208 just has a nut on eather side of the shifter. The way I did it was loosen the nuts and put the t-case into 4H and make sure the shifter is also in the correct spot for 4H and re tighten the nuts on both sides. Took about 5 min to do. I havent had it pop out since.

I'll have to try that thanks :waytogo:

This problem is associated with two things. Lift and your shift fork in your tcase. Lifting your truck and not properly fixing the linkage will result in grinding when shifting between gears. Get up under there and loosen or tighten the linkage and try shifting until it shifts smooth and grind free.

The big problem I have come across from researching this problem is that the tcase using a plastic piece on the shift fork that wears down over time leaving our cases slipping and grinding when changeing gears or hitting bumps. I use a ghetto bungie cord to give me a little sense of security ( not to tight to prevent movement, ust enought to prevent it from slipping out)

Solution: fix your linkage and rebuild your case and fix shift fork. Or wait until it breaks and replace it with the doubler your building :D

i had the same thing happen it sux!however you are right on,i did the same thing to mine' prob solved. haven't had a prob since :D

I've also had it do it on my old 77 because the CV in the front shaft was worn out. But if it's doing it because of that.. the shifter will have a vibration in it when you put your hand on it.
