Which would you rather have? An NP205, or an NP208/NP241?

I am just curious. I feel a lot of people have bought into the myth of the NP205. Unless you are building a doubler, they are not a great transfer case in my opinion. Gearing trumps a heavy case.

I like the 241 and the 205, not a big fan of the 208, those are the only ones I have ever broke:dunno:

I like the beefiness of a 205 but I do wish mine was a Lomax w/ 3:1.

That is a completely different situation. I have one. I really like it (even though the NP205 portion shifts terribly....). I am talking about running a single, factory transfer case.

yeah I know, I'm just messing with you :D

205 by a huge margin. Huuuuuge. Any disadvantage a 205 might have is heavily out weighed by it's brute strength. Period. What good is gearing if the case is too weak to hold up to the extra leverage? I have NEVER seen a blown up 205 with my own eyes. I have seen numerous oem aluminum cases exploded. GM, ford, toy...all of them, boom. Have you ever seen a truly blown up 203 or 205? Bearing failures, or any failure do to neglect or improper maintenance, doesn't count. :deal:

That said...

The reasons for the 205's dominance, IN THIS CONTEXT, are not matters of opinion. It has been established for a long time, by the majority. The individual's opinion and experience's are 100% irrelevant.

Why is this even a question?

As far as I'm concermed, the 205 is the only viable, oem single transfer case option, if hard use is on the table. After that, it's to the aftermarket for the next best.

I've always used 205s, and I am good with it.

My question is how many people have actually broke a 241?

When I sold my old '89 Sub to another member on here it had a busted 241. It was KRAZIE87K5 (I think that's his username) and he posted pics of it somewhere on here but doubt it will show up because it was back before the crash on this site.

I've always used 208s and have only broken one through hard use. I used to find them for $50 or less and can swap one out in about 15 minutes with no jack so I never worried too much.

Here lately though it seems like all the ones I see for sale are $300+ so I'm saving what spares I have for my truck I drive on the road and building a 203/205 doubler for my wheeling rig. I'll buy a new atlas before I'll spend $300 on an np208.

If it works I`m happy! :D

Honestly I like a 205 I got a 208 in mine right now because it fit with the 465 that I have...I like it, it shifts smooth, but I hate were the T case lever is in 4x4 and cant stand it in 4x4 low! :doah: The 205`s lever is much nicer positioned.

That said the 208 I got works great! :thumb:
