Ok i am new to here and my 75 jimmy is new to me so i dont wana sound dumb but i am not sure of what my transfer case shift pattern is the engine and transmission came out of a 85-87 ish truck i was told (350 to t350) and when i got the truck the guy didnt know too much about the 4x4 on it fron what i can tell my pattern is (starting at the dash) 4low/4high/N/2high i dont know what it is the shifter and knob look like a np203 but i dont know and i am so new here i cant post pics.... any help would be helpfull thanks in advance

First thing is to determine what case and tranny you have for sure. here is a link to a pic of a 203 http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/attachment.php?postid=297530

a 208 http://media.photobucket.com/image/np208 transfer case/carnuck/ax15np208j.jpg (it's not a gm but very similar)

The trans can be identified by the shape of the pan; square with a corner cut off= t350 , rectangle = t700 , something that resembles the shape of Texas= t400

The T case is what will matter as far as the 4x4 shift pattern, determine that first:D

The one out of the 85-87 should be a 208. I can't recall the exact pattern though (been years since I've owned a working one).

A 203 probably came in your truck stock. I has the pattern is full time four wheel drive. Has the pattern:
Low Loc
Low
Neutral
High
High Loc

A 205 has the pattern:
4 Low
Neutral
2 High
4 High

What does the case look like? Is it aluminum? If it is, than it's a 208.
Does it have a slip yoke on the rear? It's a 208, or a later 205.
Is it a bolt on yoke for the rear? Then it could be a 203 or 205.

If it looks like it weighs 300lbs, then it's probably a 203.

my 208 shift pattern is startung at the dash 2 4H n 4L. Also, most T cases have the factory tag on the back of them. Unless its been removed it will tell you what T case you have.

ok after a little investigating i found that it is a t-350 tranny and a NP205 transfer case so i guess i need to play with the selector a little cause i have been driving in 4 high (stick all the way back) or am i wrong ... at least i only went like 20 miles

ok so i tried to shift it to 2h and it will go into 2h when i am stopped with the truck in drive and just shift the seletor from 4h to 2h and drive fine however if i release the gas pedal the transfer case will "lose" 2h and just make a humming sound then i have to put the truck in neutral and shift the transfer case back to 4h just to get moving again.... could there be a linkage issue not engageing the gears correctly

ok i'm offically a dumbass i took a picture of both the 203 and 205 cases and gues what its a 203 with out a conversion kit and someone installed manual hubs so i gues i fixed my own problem thx to all who responded
