I picked up a 79 jimmy not to long ago and today my friend had come over to check it out. He gets under the truck and notices that the transfer case is loose and starts to move it rapidly which also made the trans and motor move. Also he tells me there is a part missing on the transfer case because there are 2 open slots where something needs to be. Dose anybody have any underbody shots of a stock k5?

How bout some more info about your rig , no point in showing you pics of a rig with a manual trans and a 208 case if you've got a th350 / 203 combo :D. Maybe you could post a pic or 2 and I'm sure we can help you out :waytogo:

more than welcome to look through my build thread, but I only have 700/208 pics. He might be talking about the support rod from the trans bell housing to the TC.

link below VVV

I found out it is the brace from the tcase to the bell housing now i looked out the mounts and there basically shot plan to replace very soon I also read on the forums thats guys run there rigs with no brace on the tcase. Dose this affect anything at all

It wont affect anything other than letting the tranny and transfer case flex and probably crack, possibly allowing it to drop to the pavement!...
Get that brace back on!!...

I know some here will argue that GM didn't use the brace on some years and models of transfer cases, nor a side mount to the frame rail, but they went back to using them for a reason!...the cast iron cases are very heavy and they can stress an aluminum bellhousing or tranny case to the failure point pretty easily...its not so much of an issue with a older truck with a manual trans and a cast iron bellhousing, but the T-case should have some support to the frame or bellhousing bolts still to avoid breakage...

Agreed:waytogo:

I have an extra one but not sure if it's the same. This would be fore the 700/208. What combo do you have in your truck?

FYI: 50% today and tomorrow at the Pick-your-part locations

In 79, it would be a 203 behind an auto, or 205 behind a stick...either way there both heavy and require a brace IMO.

A missing support rod won't allow the whole drivetrain combo to move around. By hand, only minimum flexing of the transmission mount will happen - whether the rod is there or not. It sounds more like a blown out transmission mount.
