I just got a set of 1 tons for my K5. It has a 700r4 trans. Which T case should i look for and what years of vehicles do i look for it under? I want to eliminate the slip yoke and possibly get an all gear case...no chain. Is that even possible. And i know the atlas 300 is too pricey for my wallet. Thank you!

np205 is the gear driven case.. that's what I've got, 700r4, np205.... you'd need a t350 to 205 adapter...

The Dana 300 and Atlas transfer cases are probably what you're talking about, they're different and neither is cheap to adapt to any Chevy trans.

Neither is as strong as an NP205, that is likely the gear driven transfer case you're talking about.

Adapting a 205 to a 700R4 is easy, either a shorter output shaft (if you're rebuilding the trans) or a spacer and then you can use TH350/NP205 parts.

The NP205 is the strongest transfer case out there and it usually came with a fixed rear output.

Chris,
What makes the NP205 as strong as an Atlas? I'm wanting to upgrade my drive line from the 203 adn was looking at the Atlas 4spd. I have been down the crawler boxes (dual t-cases) road before. Sorry for the hi jack I just want to be more informed.

SO...NP 205...spacer cause i am NOT rebuilding the trans...again, then t350/np205 adapter. Does the adapter allow for the length or is the spacer extra? im guessing ORD has these parts because they responded to me...right

the spacer is made by fitz all..

teckpak fitz all spacer 7Q35A

no, the spacer runs in front of the adapter... which is better for front shaft clearance anyway...

I forget which particular x-member you'll need... mines custom.. but you'll need to move it back on the frame accordingly to account for the spacer...

this will also affect the shaft lengths...

The NP205 is substantially stronger than Atlas. The Atlas was more closely built around the Dana 300 architecture, it's a stout case for sure but an NP205 it is not. These are pictures of the short-lived 3:1 gears but they illustrate the point:

I've seen a bunch of gear failures in D18/D20/D24/D300 and a few Atlas cases, I've NEVER seen a gear fail in an NP205.

David, give us a call if you're in the market for a 4 speed system, we may have something for you in the not so distant future.

Ok...now the question is...what truck do i find the 205 under? Ive heard that there are 3 different spline counts for the T case input shaft. Ive also heard of a round pattern and fig 8 pattern input connection. Which do i need to hook up to the 700R4. thank you!

Np 205

Look on most standard transmission trucks and some in the 70-72 range came with an automatic 205 combo. If you can't find one I can get one for you but I have no idea if the shipping would even be worth it. I love the 205 and wouldn't go with anything else. It is all gear driven and doesn't have the chain problems the others did. Let me know if you get desperate and I can see what I can do. I have several lying around but I mate them to the NV4500's so I won't let any of mine go. I know of one that is in a truck that only had around 80,000 on it before the motor went out and the old man has parked it ever since. I doubt he ever even used 4x4. It is behind a 465 and he may sell the whole truck to you if you want it and it would probably be cheaper to buy the whole truck than to buy a t-case. He owes me a favor and I wouldn't mind doing that for you if you will take the case and let me keep the rest of the truck for my boy pulling the t-case. I'll bet the whole deal would go for $50 at the most. I would buy it but I have no available cash at all so that is where that all falls in. Don't worry I won't screw you over as I am one of the old fashioned type and believe in honesty and think a lier and a thief should be hung. The body has set for a long time and is in pretty rough shape as his cows have used it as a scratching post for all of these years. I just need a few little things off of it and then it will head to my bone yard incase I need a frame later on down the line. Let me know what you think.
