My t case dumped out all its fluid in the driveway after a day of four wheeling. How hard is it to replace them and what do i use? it looks like its got rtv sealing it now, does that sound right?:k5::thinking:

What t-case and where is the fluid gushing from?

My 208 just pulled the same trick a couple weeks ago. On mine it was the o-ring on the front output where the yoke bolts in place. I pulled it apart and RTV'd it to get going since we had a trip coming up and it's held ever since.

When its engaged it starts slinging out of the rear output, t think the rest is coming from where the cover i think where the chain is. its a 205 i think, which ever one is aluminum

Which case?

I seal mine with ultra black (high oil resistance) RTV when obtaining new gaskets is inconvenient. It works fine, but it weeps a bit over time. No way it would last 20 years like new gaskets would.

Shouldn't be too hard, depending on the shape of your floorpan. My K5 has enough room to overhaul the 203 while it's still in the truck (no body lift either). A burb that I scavenged parts off of however, was a pain even with ratcheting boxheads.

If you're running a 208 or 241, I can't imagine it being that tough. The worst part about my 203 was lifting it alone by hand, but it weighs like 150-200lbs. My whole case came apart with just a 9/16"s socket and was pretty darn simple.

Might want to pick up new output seals. They'll be real easy to replace with the case empty if they show any wear. Return em if you don't need them.

Another trick I like is to either use a fluid transfer pump from napa, or nylon pipe fittings and vinyl hose from Homo Depot. It's a lot less tedious to fill up if you can just invert a gallon jug and come back 30 minutes later. Most of the fill plugs are a standard 3/8"-1/2" NPT fitting, so you can thread a hose barb in there and not have it drip when it gets full. It's real nice with gear oil, cuz even when you heat it, it still poors like molasses.

i had the same problem a while back. i thought it was comming from the output tail housing so i changed the gasket and output bushing. and it still leaked like crazy. i finally pulled the drive shaft and noticed the plug on the yoke popped out you might wanna check that first because it looked like it was leaking from the t case and it was the driveshaft that was the issue. hope this helps

thanks everyone. its a manual transmission will that make it any different from what you guys have done?

I'll second the transfere pump, it cuts down on the mess alot. If you replace the gasket rry applying some rtv to either side.
